NCERT Advisory 2026: Important Updates on New Textbooks for Classes 1 to 11
Introduction:
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released an official advisory on March 17, 2026, regarding the rollout of new textbooks. This development is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
Key Highlights of the Advisory:
Classes 1 to 8: The new NCERT textbooks for Grades 1 to 8 have been successfully developed and are now available in both print and digital formats.
Class 9: New textbooks for Grade 9 are currently under development and will be made available for use from the academic session 2026-27 onwards. The draft syllabi, based on NCF-SE 2023, are already available on the official NCERT website for reference and feedback. Furthermore, teachers are advised to ensure that the prerequisite learning of students is adequately addressed before initiating this new syllabus.
Classes 10 and 11: The new textbooks for Grades 10 and 11 will be introduced from the academic session 2027-28 onwards. Therefore, the existing textbooks for Grades 10 and 11 across all subject areas shall continue to be used during the upcoming academic session 2026-27.
